Disquiet Junto Project 0337: Through-Composted
Create a piece of music that is through-composed, but built entirely from samples.

In May, I had the fortune of being invited to Bundanon [in NSW] as part of their artist residency program. Bundanon is most famous as the former residence of painter Arthur Boyd, and I could quickly see why he was drawn to the natural beauty of the place, with its forests and the Shoalhaven River running alongside the property.
One of the stories that struck me about Bundanon was the story of two girls drowning in the Shoalhaven. Being a tidal river, the Shoalhaven is deceptively treacherous under its seemingly calm exterior. I resonated with that story because I remember almost drowning, and it was both terrifying but strangely calming in that moment before blackout.
So, contemplating the story and my own experience, I gathered up some samples from the river and created this.
Layer 1: Recording of river + plane, gradually slowed down to 800% speed.
Layer 2-5: Recording of river + plane with various resonators.
Layer 6: Hydrophone recording, with panning
Layer 7: Recording of birds at the nearby Amphitheatre.
